Monday, November 1st

New Speedway Boogie
Fillmore East, NY, NY- 9/20/70

This is one of the acoustic/electric hybrid versions of this Workingman’s Dead classic. Although not residing in the Grateful Dead’s master tape collection, this was drawn from the tapes recorded by the Fillmore East crew.

Tuesday, November 2nd

Dark Star
Fillmore West, SF, CA- 6/5/69

Another classic mid-1969 version of Dark Star, similar in tone and energy to the versions played in February-March, 1969 at the same venue, one of which (2/27/69) was included on Live/Dead. This Dark Star would later go into the “typical” (oh, the days when THAT was typical…) sequence of St. Stephen>The Eleven>Lovelight.

Wednesday, November 3rd

Althea
Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, CT- 3/14/81

This was recorded on the excellent Spring Tour of 1981, which featured to magnificent nights at Madison Square Garden, the famous University of Maryland show with the super-long Bird Song, and the end of March jaunt over to Europe for a batch of shows at London’s Rainbow and the 3/28/81 show in Essen, West Germany with The Who.

Playing In The Band
Iowa State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, IA- 5/13/73

This long, spacey Playing In The Band is one of the finest versions from a year that was filled with great Playings. This show in Des Moines was the first of three consecutive weekends of giant shows by the Grateful Dead, with May 20 seeing the band play at UCSB in Santa Barbara, and of course the famous 5/26/73 to wrap up May’s performances at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

Friday, November 5th

Easy Wind
Springer's Inn, Portland, OR - 1/16/70

Another mighty fine Easy Wind from 1970, complete with that great Bob Weir guitar work (not to mention Jerry’s fine playing…). This was the first of two shows at Springer’s Inn in Portland, sandwiched around a show in Corvalis.

Saturday, November 6th

Sugaree
Warfield, San Francisco, CA- 10/13/80

This version of Sugaree was recorded on the 14th and penultimate show at the Warfield during the three week run of shows that featured three sets of music night, one acoustic and two electric. After these shows at the Warfield, the band took their show on the road for two nights in New Orleans, followed by eight shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Sunday, November 7th

He's Gone
Hartford Civic Center Hartford, CT - 3/26/87

This version of He’s Gone is from the “comeback” tour that welcomed the Grateful Dead back to the East Coast for the first time since 7/7/86, when Jerry was recuperating from his diabetic coma. The band brought a renewed energy with them to virtually every stop on this tour, as shown in this powerful, inspired He’s Gone. The closing jam at the end of the song, in particular, shows just how happy they were to be playing again. This recording was drawn from a very clean “matrix” recording, which is a blend of the soundboard feed with audience microphones, creating a very “live” sound.

Monday, November 8th

Estimated Prophet
Warfield, San Francisco, CA - 10/7/80

This recording was drawn from the middle of the Grateful Dead’s unprecedented 15 night run at the Warfield in San Francisco, from which part of Dead Set and Reckoning were drawn. All of these concerts were recorded to multi-track tape. This a rough mix done in 1981 during production of Dead Set.

Dagle's Choice, Volume 1

Dagle's Choice, Vol. 1, gives our longtime engineer, Wayne "Dagle" Pooley the opportunity to call the shots.  After listening back to each of the shows that The Noisemakers played in 2009, Dagle has created a complex mathematical equation that determines the finest moments of each concert ... aw, who are we kidding, the ears don't lie and the name says it all.  Keep an eye turned to LIVE NOISE for more volumes throughout the year to take away a few of the brightest Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers moments from 2009.  Thank you.

LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY & Live Trax Vol. 19

Dave Matthews Band performed at Citi Field in Flushing, NY on July 16-17, 2010 to more than 40,000 fans each night. The July 17th show is being released as the 2-CD set, Live in New York City and is available for Pre-Order until Friday, November 5th.

The NYC show was a definite crowd-pleaser with a mix of new surprises and older fan favorites. Highlights include The Stone and Warehouse followed by One Sweet World with Rashawn taking the solo over the original intro. An epic Two Step with a haunting Time Bomb intro and new outro features an unforgettable solo by Carter. Seek Up takes the band's jazz sensibilities to new heights and showcases their communication on stage on a different level. A partial Blackjack makes its live debut. Stefan's bass play on You Might Die Trying and his Moog-infused bass solo before Watchtower really shine. Dave's vocals are powerful throughout the show and reach a crescendo during the passionate Squirm.

Dave Matthews Band performed at Vivo Rio in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on September 30, 2008 in front of many South American fans seeing the band live for the first time. The audience in Brazil was ecstatic which comes through in the recording and DMB really plays up to their exuberance. Highlights include Carlos Malta on the wood fife in Say Goodbye, his influence bringing a distinct flavor and Brazilian sound. Burning Down the House followed by an arresting Two Step are also noteworthy as is an emotional The Stone. The synergy between the band members is evident throughout the show. Other songs of the note on the Rio release are the show-opener, Bartender as well as Grey Street which makes its first official live release performed by the new formation of band members.

2009 Revisited

I've been listening 2009 today. What a great year that was.

found this post below.

10 Best Phish Jams of 2009
by Mike McKinley

"Back On the Train" - American Airlines Arena, Miami, FL 12/30/09

Phish in a nutshell: nobody would have predicted that "Back on the Train" would be the jam of the 2009 New Year's run in Miami. This was improvisational magic where they took flight from an unsuspecting spot and lit the place up.

"Stash" - Fenway Park, Boston, MA 5/31/09

Probably the most consistent jams since they've been back have come from "Stash." They play like they're always reaching for something new. This is the type of improvisation where they fearlessly embrace the darkness, digging deep to release all the inner turmoil that everyone in the room is dealing with. This one from Fenway is a gem. Sometimes you forget that Phish can also play as abstract as some of the most forward-thinking, avant-garde jazz musicians -- from the careful stretching of parameters of form, to its complete obliteration.

"Seven Below" - Times Union Center, Albany, NY 11/28/09

Second set opener -- 24 minutes of bliss. Let's be thankful (it was Thanksgiving time) they didn't go into "Shine" about 13 minutes into it…

"Bathtub Gin" -- The Gorge, George, WA 8/7/09

 Beautiful venue, beautiful Gin.
They just opened up and went for it to start the second set. Maybe it's just me or maybe there's something in the air at SPAC -- remember that "Down With Disease" second set opener from SPAC '95?

"Backwards Down the Number Line" - SPAC, Saratoga, NY 8/16/09

They nailed this one in Asheville. It kept getting better and better and better…

"Ghost" - Asheville Civic Center, Asheville, NC 6/9/09

They nailed this one in Asheville. It kept getting better and better and better…

"Sneakin' Sally Thru the Alley" - The Gorge, George, WA 8/7/09

A cover tune that Phish doesn't play too frequently, but this rendition makes you think they should -- it has it all: a nice vocal breakdown, a schizo, edgy funk jam, and then they settle into a spacious, ambient jam that sounds perfect to fade off into their next move in the set.

"Kill Devil Falls" - Bonnaroo, Manchester, TN 6/12/09

This was the jam of Friday's late night set at Bonnaroo. It went from ripping. To oozing. To dripping.

"Ghost" - Times Union Center, Albany, NY 11/28/09

They went into this from "Seven Below" (see above) and it was sloppy and all over the place, but, man, did they find some spots.

"Crosseyed and Painless" - Alpine Valley, East Troy, WI 6/21/09

 This one smokes.

The Beginning

Let's get this show on the road.
